TROLLING FLIES
Tinsel Trolling Flys
When I first saw trolling flies I was a bit skeptical, "what fish is going to take a bunch of tinsel" I thought. However when i went to Lake Michigan and saw that they were one of the hottest lures there with every boat having row and rows of rods set up with flashers and flies and then using them and catching King Salmon, Steelhead, Lake Trout and Brown Trout it convinced me that they were worth giving them a go. The Brown trout in Lake Michigan came from Loch Leven stock so they should work back in the "home country". Lomond Brown on Flasher and Fly
Here is another Lomond fish that fell for the Flasher and Fly 12lb Brown (returned). On my way back from Michigan i was given a flasher and Fly by a guy i was fishing with and on my first trip to Loch Lomond I thought "I will leave this out all day and see if it works". On my first troll round the Cladich shore the downrigger rod started bouncing and the result was a Brown Trout of 7lbs 10oz, so they do work over here its just a matter of learning how to use them.
Two King Salmon from the Great lakes that were caught on A-TOM-MIK Trolling Flies.
Below a selection of Trolling Flies with 50lb Mono leader and a size 1/0 Eagle claw treble hook. Troll 18 to 24" ahead of a Dodger or Flasher from Dipsys or Downriggers, deadly on Great Lakes Salmon and Trout and have worked over here, give the fish a change it might just work.
Price £3.25 each
WIGGLEHEAD TROLLING FLIES A selection of trolling flies with a Wigglefin Disc built into the fly, most trolling flys need a Dodger or Flasher to impart action to the fly. The Wigglehead fly has built in action, the head disc gives the fly a Shimmying action through the water. The Wigglehead fly is ready to fish with it comes with a 36" long 30lb mono leader and swivel. For flatline trolling all you have to do is put a weight ahead of it and troll it also works great with Divers, Downriggers and Leadcore. The flies are rigged on 30lb Trilene Mono and have a size 1/0 VMC Red Treble hook fitted to the business end. Price £3.25 each
SPINDOCTOR FLASHER Flies require something to give then action in the water, this can be a Rotating Flasher that gives the fly a spiral rolling action through the water or a Dodger that flip flops from side to side and gives the fly a side to side action. They can be fished from Downriggers , Divers or Leadcore. The theory in the Great Lakes is that the use of a Flasher/fly rig will "pull" fish into your spread of lures to take a look to see what all the "noise" and flash is all about.
